HANDS ON ME

  • What?

A photo series that questions the human obsession with beauty; where if it exists for public display, it must be beautiful, or it will be rejected. The hands symbolize the wants that may not necessarily be consented to. Sometimes there isn’t even a face.

  • Why?

Working in an industry that clamors around beauty to profit from an often unhealthy obsession - it became appalling to hear so many horror stories from models and how they get treated badly by photographers that believe themselves to wield absolute power over models - even up to sexual assault. And often we the viewer are complicit in that drive to create unethical content. We heve to do better, beauty must consent.

  • Who?

In a drive to create photographs ethically - heavy consideration is taken in the planning phases for the photoshoot. Models are told exactly what the goals and artistic directions of the photoshoot would be. Models are often asked several times if there is any hint of discomfort from the model for performing any of the poses. The goal is not to eliminate beautiful imagery, but rather create them in such a way that the models feel safe and protected.
