The words “Hikayat Kain” translates roughly to “Tale of Cloth” from the Malay language. It is a loose photographic documentary project to create a record of women and their connection to the past via traditional clothing of their cultures.

A photo series that questions the human obsession with beauty; where if it exists for public display, it must be beautiful, or it will be rejected. The hands symbolize the wants that may not necessarily be consented to. Sometimes there isn’t even a face.

Photographs made with colour film instead of black & white film. Where decisions of how one might feel is often overruled by the interpretations of the world as it is before our very eyes. Though my heart belongs to the monochrome, here too do I travel.
